Biotik Design.
From Emergency to Regeneration
This edition promotes a paradigm shift: from design as a tool for consumption to design as a force that sustains and facilitates life.
Faced with an unprecedented eco-social crisis, it is no longer enough to be sustainable: it is urgent to regenerate. We cannot maintain human activity without first healing, restoring and revitalising the ecosystems — both human and natural — on which we depend.
Faced with an adverse present, we invite you to imagine and build fertile futures; to work from a place of interdependence and to activate processes that care for, repair and restore value to the environment. The emergency is the starting point for a collective commitment that drives action and regenerative change.
BBDW25, curated by Pez Estudio, positions Regenerative Design as a response to current crises, a way for design to enable the continuity of life on the planet. Its programme emphasises the connection between this concept and professionals and citizens, with the aim of activating practices that care for and open up paths for eco-social change.
Irekiera brings together international design leaders who share key tools for regeneration. In Seeds for Regeneration, professionals and local entities engage in dialogue with these leading voices to activate projects for the future.
Laborategia converts Bilbao's community health challenges into creative proposals from Basque design students, which are presented during the week. In addition, these challenges are the origin of Taupada / Latido (Heartbeat), an interactive installation in the streets of Bilbao that invites citizens to experience from their hearts. The HOPE! Film Forum amplifies the regenerative wave, integrating local voices and promoting dreams and actions. And in Podcasting, emerging and established creators share their visions on regeneration.
The programme is rounded off with more than fifteen activities promoted by local entities from multiple design disciplines: regenerative fashion and biomaterials, demopathic interior design and fablabs, meetings, workshops and a market featuring eco-social and technological innovations, products and services, graphics and audiovisuals that connect creativity, territory and community. At the closing event, Partekatu!, we will share our experiences and celebrate a collective effort that paves the way for the next steps towards a regenerative future.
