BBDW25 Laborategia
Would you like to see how creativity and design can transform community health? BBDW25 Laborategia has brought together students from five universities and design schools to work together on real solutions to challenges that affect all citizens. Discover the solutions live on November 24 at 12:30 p.m.
Creativity and design have been the driving force behind BBDW25 Laborategia, a space where students from the University of Deusto, UPV/EHU (Fine Arts), IDarte, Tecnun (University of Navarra), and IED Kunsthal Bilbao have come together to work for several weeks on real health challenges proposed by the Bilbao City Council's Health and Consumer Affairs Department.
Organized into interdisciplinary teams of 5-6 people and accompanied by Art for Life, they have designed solutions with a regenerative approach: it is not just a matter of solving specific problems, but of activating citizens to generate autonomy, resilience, and shared well-being.
Challenges turned into solutions
Challenge 1. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use of AEDs
In the event of cardiac arrest, the first few minutes are crucial. However, many people believe that only healthcare professionals can intervene, which limits the community's response to emergencies. This challenge seeks to build public confidence so that anyone knows they can act, whether by performing CPR or using an automated external defibrillator (AED), overcoming fears and barriers of ignorance.
Challenge 2. Airway obstruction
The Heimlich maneuver is simple and vital, but most people do not know how to perform it. The challenge is to design resources that clearly teach when and how to intervene, reinforcing safety and the ability to act in critical situations such as choking.
Challenge 3. Bilbao walking network
The city has 15 active routes that promote physical and social well-being, but they do not always reach all neighborhoods or meet accessibility criteria. This challenge involves rethinking and expanding the network to include less walkable areas, incorporating effective signage, and designing routes adapted to different population profiles.
Challenge 4. Active parks
Bilbao has parks with outdoor fitness equipment and calisthenics structures designed for all ages, but their use is still limited due to lack of awareness and prejudice. This challenge seeks to encourage citizens to take ownership of these spaces, revitalize them, and turn them into inclusive places for physical activity and community gatherings.
Presentation of solutions
On November 24 at 12:30 p.m., at the Ensanche Building in Bilbao, the teams will publicly present their proposals to the Health and Consumer Affairs Department. It will be a unique opportunity to discover how design can activate new forms of community care and collective well-being.
Attendance is free, but registration is required to reserve a place.
