Merkatruke

Merkatruke is a project to swap second-hand clothes to encourage responsible consumption and foster the setting up of community and neighbourhood links. It emerged as an alternative to today’s unbridled consumerism and in response to the negative impact of fast fashion and the production and consumption models that we consider unsustainable.
The project is managed by a team of committed volunteers who are in charge of the whole process: from coordinating, counting and sorting, to managing the garments and events.
Merkatruke is open to everyone. They just have to bring clothes that they no longer use, provided it is clean and in good repair, and they can swap it for other garments that they could use. We thus give a second life to clothes, reduce textile waste and build a community based on a sustainable and alternative model. This will be an opportunity to forge social ties with entities and profiles from the city’s social and environmental spheres. A performance will therefore be put on and there will be time for refreshments after the market
The event is part of the Konekta Ideiak: GreenGlam II programme, run by the Estudio Bokashi technical secretariat and with the support of Bilbao City Council’s Youth Area.
